Projects Managed by Qualified Solar Consultants & Teams

2014: Largest Solar PV in Minnesota

In spite of the wettest spring in history in 2014, we successfullly completed the 517 kWh Solar Facility for three Minnesota Electric Cooperatives:  People's Energy Cooperative / Oronoco, MN; Tri County Cooperative / Rushford, MN;

and Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services / Albert Lea, MN.  This was the first ever project built for Electric Cooperatives in the State.

Xcel Energy Project

In 2015, an RFP went out from Xcel Energy. They were directed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to set aside 50 million dollars to be spent on renewable energy projects in Minnesota. The criteria for selection were based on a number of factors but to summarize, the projects selected were to offer unique and creative solutions that would demonstrate the value of solar in non-standard or expanded implementations. Hundreds of projects were submitted and eventually 13 were chosen for funding. Dragonfly Solar submitted two projects for consideration, of which, one was chosen.

Xcel Project Continued..

To build on this site required that we design a system that is long and narrow to accommodate the land available to us. Although it may not be the most efficient layout for a site, the selection of certain products along with proper placements within the array resulted in minimal line loss associated with the longer runs eventually back to the equipment pad where the transaction of converting DC power to AC and out to be purchased by Xcel to compliment the energy being generated by the wind farm. It overcame the number one complaint against large ground mount systems: that they take away valuable land - often fertile farmland. This project is built on an unused, abandoned railway bed and IS the highest and best use for the land by far!

Our Commitment: Projects Completed On Time and On Budget

Heartland Power Cooperative, Iowa

Heartland Power Cooperative, Iowa

This project consisted of two ground mount solar facilities producing about 1 MW energy which separated by a river bed and both in a flood plain.  The second component was a 68 KW solar installation on the college's Preus Library building roof top (seen above)..

In 2016, Heartland Power Coorperative owned the largest solar array in Iowa designed and built by Dragonfly Solar.  We learned alot about the many variables to consider during winter design, build and installations. The initial RFP win had the project's end date in the early fall. However, the project beginning was extended through several factors outside of Dragonfly's control to become a winter installation, and by far our most difficult installation.
